The Happy Our With Lee
Lee Bannister has been involved in broadcasting since his school days, working first in Radio and later in Television, over the course of 30 years.
Having been inspired by the legendary Beacon Radio from childhood, Lee was lucky enough to work at Beacon from 1989-2000. He moved to Heart FM in Birmingham in the early noughties, and then to Wolverhampton's WCR FM in 2005. In Wolverhampton, he became a qualified teacher and taught radio skills to students at both the City of Wolverhampton College and the University of Wolverhampton.
At WCR he also made a Saturday Morning Grown-Up-Kids Show called “UpAndHappy!” which ultimately ran for over 10 years! A couple of hours of silliness on a Saturday Morning, just what you need after a busy week!
In 2015, Lee moved to Big Centre TV (later known as Made in Birmingham) where he produced, directed and presented a range of programmes, including the Nightly News bulletins, the popular Weekend Magazine, and a series of special programmes about the famous Midlands Soap Opera “Crossroads”! Oh, and he was also responsible for highly-rated reruns of classic editions of “Tiswas” too (and got a pie in the face from the Phantom Flan Flinger as a result)!
Lee has helped produce a series of DVD documentaries about the classic local television station ATV and its local programmes. One of the DVDs went on to win an international film-makers award.
These days, with Cannock Chase Radio, he’s really enjoying being back on the radio, and he also pushes lots of buttons behind the scenes too. Well you know, it keeps him busy…
Lee is a firm believer that local radio is incredibly important to the community, especially when so many of the classic stations have sadly gone away, and most of the bigger stations don't seem to be interested.
On "The Happy Hour", Saturday Lunchtimes, Midday 'til 2 pm, Lee has a chance to go back over his radio years and plays plenty of the biggest songs that we all remember over the years. Along with that, it's a chance to find out 'What's So Special About Today'. Cheesy enough, but we often find out about some of the stranger things which have happened over the years (did you know Women weren't officially allowed to wear trousers in Paris until 2018? Neither did we !!)
